Richard and Pamela Smoak have been involved in missions since their appointment as Associates in Missions to Kenya in 1986.  He attended Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Jackson College of Ministries.  She is a graduate of Arkansas State University School of Nursing and Jackson College of Ministries.  At the time of their appointment to Kenya, Richard was serving as assistant pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church of Bossier City, Louisiana and Pamela as the music director.

Following their time in Kenya, Richard and Pamela were appointed to Tanzania in October 1988; he became superintendent in 1999. They direct the E. L. Freeman Bible Institute; develop, translate, and print literature; and promote Sunday school, youth, ladies, and evangelism ministries. He is secretary/treasurer of Africa’s regional missions program. She serves as the East Africa representative of the Africa Aflame committee and is very involved in translation of materials into Swahili.

As they begin their seventh term, they will resume travelling extensively in both Tanzania and Burundi to further establish the churches, encourage church expansion through daughter works and new church plants and give guidance to national leaders of both countries. Their goals in Tanzania for this term include completing the construction of city churches in Dar es Salaam, Musoma and Dodoma, developing local training seminars, expansion of the Sunday school ministry throughout the country and establishing a Swahili radio ministry.

Burundi was added to their appointment in 1998; Richard became missionary superintendent in 2006. Plans have been made for the building of a Bible school and national church headquarters in the capital city of Bujumbura.  Goals for their next term in Burundi are to strengthen the Burundian church by expanding the ministry of the Bible school and conducting ministerial training seminars and evangelistic crusades.
